Short facts

  • Churches, Sights
St. Salvator is a Protestant Lutheran cemetery church in the centre of Coburg, close to the Gymnasium Albertinum school. The Salvator cemetery, which surrounds the church, was laid out in 1494 as a replacement graveyard for the Morizkirche church. The Salvatorkirche - also known as Gottesacker Church - was built between 1660 and 1662. The remaining tombs can be found on the north side. In 1740, the church used a sacristy annex building to host religious services during the renovation of the Morizkirche. The western entrance to the Salvator cemetery forms a portal with a figure of Christ. During the last building works from 1961 to 1963, St. Salvator also underwent a major interior renovation. A new organ gallery, altar and half-height altar wall were added.
