As one of the first documented Coburg fountains, it was erected in 1259 in the then Barfüßerkloster monastery and remained there unchanged even when the monastery was converted into a castle between 1542 and 1549. The octagonal box fountain has a stone fountain stand in the middle with four lion masks in whose mouths are the pipes for the fountain water. On the well column is a lion with a coat of arms. The coat of arms of Saxony and Waldeck are depicted on it to commemorate the marriage of Duke Johann Ernst to Charlotte Johanna of Waldeck-Wildungen. The fountain is named after Duke Albrecht of Saxe-Coburg.
